Good to know
- Voltaren Arthritis Pain was prescription-only until the FDA approved it for over-the-counter sale in 2020; the OTC gel is the same 1% strength.
- Aleve Arthritis Pain Gel and Motrin Arthritis Pain gel are also diclofenac sodium 1% — not naproxen or ibuprofen, despite the brand names.
- The label limits use to arthritis pain in the hands, wrists, elbows, feet, ankles and knees; it has not been shown to work for strains, sprains, bruises or sports injuries.
