Good to know
- The decongestant in DayQuil Cold & Flu is phenylephrine. In November 2024 the FDA proposed removing oral phenylephrine as an OTC nasal decongestant after concluding it is not effective when taken by mouth (an effectiveness finding, not a safety one). A proposal alone does not take products off shelves. As of 2026-10, the DailyMed label for DayQuil Cold & Flu LiquiCaps still lists phenylephrine HCl 5 mg.
- Vicks DayQuil Ultra Concentrated Cold & Flu LiquiCaps list exactly the same active ingredients per LiquiCap (acetaminophen 325 mg, dextromethorphan HBr 10 mg, phenylephrine HCl 5 mg) as regular DayQuil Cold & Flu LiquiCaps; the box says the capsule is 25% smaller.
- Vicks DayQuil High Blood Pressure Cold & Flu LiquiCaps contain acetaminophen and dextromethorphan without phenylephrine, and DayQuil Severe Cold & Flu adds guaifenesin — both are different products.
